Texas Wesleyan OpenJon Dorn, John Miller, the UT table tennis club and I attended the Texas Wesleyan Open , March 6th and 7th. The tournament was well run and events ended on time. There were many of the top US players there and the play was excellent. I believe all of our players gave a good showing for our club. Jon Dorn played well but as he is playing in 2150's and 2400 and didn't bring home any trophies this time. He did get many complements on his play.I really blieve he is going to start really being a force in tournamments in Texas. I know his serve is feared by many as is his consistant play. I bought home 2nd in the over 50. I had hoped to win the U-1900 but didn't advance out of my RR because of a 3 way tie for 1st in which I lost out. It turns out that the two players from my group that advanced won 1st and 2nd. In the U-1700 I lost to Austin Elston whom I saw later on playing in the finals. Over all I played well with Jon Dorn coaching me. I lost the first day to Warren Lemma 3-2 but avenged that loss in the over 50's with a win 3-0/. I also had a loss to Robert Estell (an old buddy from years gone by) but beat him later on in the over 50's. I believe we all had a good time and looking forward to the next tournament. I hope we can get a bigger group together and all go as a big team. It is a lot more fun when you have a bunch of friends going together and helping each other win. I hope the UT club reports on their play. |

Re: Texas Wesleyan OpenUT Table Tennis sent 8 of it members to the Texas Wesleyan Open (Austin, Albert, ChunYi, Diane, Jeff, Justin, Peter, and Tony) Justin and I participated in the U1900 and U3400 singles; in the U1900 we both made it to the next round, but then got eliminated; in doubles we one our first match, then lost our next match to the Elston's (father/son). More to come... |
